Growing up I don’t remember a time I didn’t bake.  It seemed like I was always baking for one event or another.  At the time my specialty was my Grandma Brown’s buns and the brownies I first learned to make from scratch in 4-H Cooking Club. Usually at any event, you can hear me asking for a recipe so I can recreate the yumminess at home. The best is when I receive a handwritten recipe.  I treasure those. My most treasured are those written in my mom’s handwriting.  I always say if there is a fire, I am grabbing my cookbooks and old photos first!

A few years down the road, I started baking for everyone’s birthdays and making cookies for Christmas just so I could bake and spread happiness.  To paraphrase Ina Garten “No one is ever sad eating a cookie.”  I then took some Baking and Pastry classes at the local community college so I could hang out with fellow bakers and learn some new techniques.

Back to college I went to earn my teaching certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences to share my love of culinary and baking with others.  There is nothing better than watching students get excited about being in the kitchen. My mom would be proud as she passed away while in school earning her Bachelors of Science in Home Economics, as it was called then.

I discovered my love of baking (and eating) biscotti when I started making them for Aunt Anna’s Biscotti.  She had the most delicious and soft biscotti I had ever eaten and then she topped them with chocolate! Who doesn’t love a cookie topped with chocolate?  There isn’t another biscotti on the planet close to those biscotti and if you want to challenge me to a biscotti tasting, I am in!  I will bring the coffee. 😊

So, I thought why not open a bakery and sell those yummy biscotti to share with my close, American friends around our great country?  Missy La-La is my nickname from my BFF’s family.  They have a Missy already so she was little Missy and I was big Missy.  I kindly asked if I could have a new nickname.  ðŸ˜Š  They came up with Missy La-La so there you have it!

We have tweaked the recipe and have some great new biscotti we are creating in the kitchen to share with you.  I hope you come along my journey and enjoy a Missy La-La Biscotti (or two!) with your morning coffee or afternoon tea!

Spread kindness and happiness!
